FACE YOGA FAQ’s

What is Face Yoga?

Face Yoga is a natural and safe way of looking and feeling younger through exercises that target the muscles of the face and neck. The exercises provide a healthy glow to the face as well as promote an overall sense of relaxation and well-being. The combination of face exercises, face massage, face acupressure and face relaxation techniques were developed by The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method. Her method uses the most effective traditional techniques and the latest research to provide safe, natural anti-aging results.

Who should do Face Yoga?

Face Yoga is for everyone; women, men, young and old. Face Yoga is very useful if you want to reduce signs of aging and tension. Whether you are starting to see the first signs of aging, or if you have deep-set lines and wrinkles, the exercise techniques will be beneficial for you. It is never too soon or too late to start improving the health of your face.

What can cause someone's face to age?

Weakening of facial muscles, poor lymph flow, breakdown of connective tissue, stress, smoking, loss of collegian and elastin, poor circulation, excess toxins, too much sun, harsh winds and cold, poor nutrition, pollution, negativity, excessive alcohol and/or drugs, lack of sleep, lack of exercise.

How do I do Face Yoga or take care of my face?

The exercises can be done sitting or standing, reclining or lying down. They can be done while watching in a mirror, and don’t worry if you laugh – this helps release tension as well! It is important to focus on proper breathing, in and out through the nose, unless otherwise directed. Effective breathing helps relax the mind, ease tension in the facial muscles, which helps the Face Yoga work more effectively. Drink plenty of water both before and after your exercises to help with the removal of toxins. Stay positive, happy and exercise the body too. Eat and drink healthy and be sure to use a good sunscreen and moisturizer.

Where can I do Face Yoga?

Face Yoga can be done at a yoga studio, in your home, at work, at your desk, or even while parked in the car before you go into work. At any chance you get, you can fit Face Yoga into your day, especially because you don’t have to necessarily tote a yoga mat around with you. Of course, don’t do Face Yoga while driving or operating machinery.

How does Face Yoga affect my skin?

All of the exercises work on the hypodermic, or lower layer of the skin, (the muscles and fatty tissues), the dermis or the middle layer, (the connective tissue), and the epidermis or the upper layer, (the cells). By working these layers correctly it will increase the blood circulation to reach the cells of the skin. The result is skin with a clearer healthier complexion with a nice healthy glow, which has less toxins and a better ability to absorb moisture. The massage techniques are designed to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the middle layer, which results in giving you a smoother, more supple and tighter-looking skin.

How long will it take to see results?

You should feel and even see a difference right away. Your muscles could feel like they have had a good workout, just like your body would feel after a workout. You should feel less tension in the face and neck and see a rosier glow in your skin. Some people also say that their face feels “lighter” after having done Face Yoga. Remember that everyone has a different face and it will vary from person to person. As a general rule, you will start to see improvement in your face and neck after about 2 weeks. It takes approximately 2 to 4 months to really see the long-term results.

Do I need to wear workout clothes when doing Face Yoga?

As with any workout, it is always best to dress for comfort. Of course, with being able to do Face Yoga almost anywhere, it is not essential that you wear your yoga pants. Always keep in mind, however, the importance of being and feeling comfortable.

Can I do Face Yoga more then once a day?

Yes, however, just once a day for 6 days a week is recommended. Just like the body, it is not recommended to over-exercise. It would not cause real harm if you did, but it’s best to find a healthy balance.

Does it matter what time of day I do Face Yoga?

It doesn’t matter when you do the exercises, just make sure you do them when it’s best for you. Try to do the exercises at the same time every day to develop a healthy routine. It is best that you find a quiet stress-free place. Choose a time and place which suits your needs.

Can I still do Face Yoga if I've had cosmetic/plastic surgery?

Yes! Face Yoga will still provide you with that healthy rosy glow, reduce the buiid up of tension and possibly the need for further plastic surgery (depending on the reason of course). Although the exercises are safe, like with any program, it is important that you allow yourself time to heal and consult your doctor before starting Face Yoga.

Will practicing Face Yoga give me wrinkles?

No it will not. Face Yoga actually builds muscle fibre which reduces wrinkles.

All techniques work the face and neck in a controlled way. When you go to the gym or to an exercise class to work the muscles in your body, you firm and tone them as well as improve the skin’s texture. The same principles apply to the muscles in the face and neck. The exercises which work on muscle resistance, enlarges the muscle and creates lift, therefore promoting a firmer, more youthful-looking face.

What happens if I stop doing Face Yoga?

Like any exercise regime, consistency is important. If you don’t do Face Yoga for a while, don’t worry. You may notice a slight difference in your face when you stop, but it’s not going to go droop or suddenly drop. Remember, like any other in the body, face muscles have “muscle memory,” so when you start again, you can usually start where you left off. Again, if you stopped for medical reasons, be sure to talk to your doctor before re-starting any program.

What happens if I wear lots of make up?

It is best if you don’t wear make-up while doing Face Yoga, however, it usually will not interfere with your practice. Keep in mind that a lot of the exercises involve you touching your face and neck and could ruin the make-up masterpiece you’ve created!

What happens if I wear contacts or glasses?

It is best if you remove your glasses or contacts before Face Yoga practice.

Are there any safety aspects I should consider?

All of the exercises and techniques in Face Yoga have been designed to be safe and beneficial for you, and all instructions should be clear and easy to follow. It is always advised to visit a teacher to ensure you are doing the exercises correctly, as well as to learn any modifications suitable for any health issues, complaints or skin problems. If you do have any health considerations, or if any of the exercises feel uncomfortable, you should consult your doctor before continuing or starting any program. Always ensure that you work within your own limits of capability and comfort.

How Does Face Yoga work?

FACE EXERCISES: The 57 muscles in the face and neck need to be exercised to remain toned and firm, just as all the other larger muscles in the body do. As the muscles become stronger, through continuous exercise, they are lifted and firmed, and the skin attached to the muscle is also lifted and tightened. This process, therefore, reduces lines and wrinkles. The muscles are much smaller than those in the body, so it takes less time for them to increase in strength and tone.

FACE MASSAGE: By regularly massaging the face, using certain methods and techniques, you will increase the circulation, lymph flow and removal of toxins in the skin. This reduces poor skin tone, puffiness, dark circles, and also allows the skin to look youthful and healthier. The massage techniques will also increase the production of collagen and elastin, (the natural plumping agents of the skin), which will result in a firmer healthier complexion.

ACUPRESSURE: This old-age technique, which has been used for centuries, works by pressing on certain points on the face. This can increase the flow of energy (or prana) in the face, thus reducing tension, increasing circulation and providing an overall healthy glow to the skin. It also assist in relaxation and sleep.
